Nina Shoshana Wish is an artist living and working in Bar Harbor. Originally from Blue Hill, Maine, Nina graduated from College of the Atlantic in the spring of 2011. For her Senior Project, "Spirit in Matter: Clay as a Medium for Chinese Calligraphy," Nina created a collection of ceramics inspired by her studies of Chinese calligraphy and Taoist philosophy. Nina's favorite style of pottery is the Japanese method of Raku, an exciting process which involves smoking pots outdoors in live flames. Nina is currently working towards her Maine Art Teacher certification for grades K-12 and apprentices with local potter Rocky Mann. |
David John Palazola is a professional
drummer, percussionist, composer and educator who is currently located in Bar
Harbor, Maine. Although passionate about music his entire life, he has
been playing professionally since the age of 15. Dave plays in a style
that is representative of everything that has struck a chord with him since he
first became aware of music. To honor all of these different sounds and
musics that have influenced him, he strives to channel his creative energy into
the evolution and progression of the music that shaped him. In a given
piece performed by Palazola, one can hear traces of everything from syncopated
afro-funk to swirling free-jazz, all in perfect harmony with the pulse and
timbre of the song.

Harvey Eyeballs makes strange rock and roll sounds for the rejects and outcasts on the fringe of society. He is the alter-ego of Fox Schwach, mastermind of the Brooklyn, NY based operation. |
"My favorite thing about making art is the feeling of it. It’s absorbing-- like reading a first-rate novel. You need to find out what happens next. When my work is going well, I’m filled with a sense of curiosity and deep interest. As the piece moves along, I often get a feeling that I’m witnessing it. I also feel complicit in the making of art: I see the piece has needs, and my job is to meet them as best I can. It’s more communion than sheer execution, and I pay close attention in order to do this, to a million things. These things are like the stories in that book you can’t stop reading-- the characters, their drama, their surprises. But this time it’s how the light affects color, the dampness of the brush and the broken lines it helps to make, the weird angle of an edge. Everything’s interesting, and the plot thickens. It’s a great feeling." |
