Danielle
was raised in a rugged rural town in the western Mountains of Maine. Her
resourcefulness and use of available materials and tools was facilitated by a
childhood of many hardships. Sculpting and carving from branches and
other wood scraps was originally born out of financial necessity, though she is
beginning to seek these very materials to explore her complete expressive
potential. Blemishes, cracks, and knots are seen as enhancements, rather than
detriments, to her finely finished style. Using primarily hand tools and
traditional methods of working wood, she seeks to create work that balances
elegant forms with function. Currently, she is producing sculptural kitchen
utensils and functional art, though she sees her experiences in the realm of
carving and sculpting as the creative segue into her relentless pursuit of a
career in fine furniture craftsmanship. In 2011 she started her own
business, Rosebyrd designs.
